Does your paintwork look dull or are there lots of imperfections?

Paint Correction is the term used to describe the process of restoring and rejuvenating the paintwork of a vehicle by eliminating  surface imperfections. These imperfections include things like swirl marks & fine scratches, bird dropping etching & acid rain etching, hologramming & bore water.  In addition, we are frequently called out to deal with vehicles that have been contaminated by overspray from roadworks and construction sites.

It is important that these contaminants are removed before the paint correction process, so your Car Care detailer will detail your car and establish the required level of cutting compound required for each area.  For a complete overview of our process, please see “Our Paint Correction Process” near the bottom of this page.

What is the difference between Paint Correction and Paint Touch Up?

Paint Correction is the removal of the imperfections in the vehicle’s paintwork whilst Paint Touch Up aims to cover up or hide imperfections through the use of fillers or small amounts of paint, which is why it is usually restricted to small issues such as small deep scratches or paint chips.  They both have their place and your detailer can advise the best solution for you.

Important – Paint Correction should only be carried out by a trained detailer and as the degree of contamination varies wildly your Car Care detailer will usually provide you with an estimate prior to starting.

Our Paint Correction Process

Before we start the paint correction process, we handwash your car to remove any surface blemishes and determine the extent of the problem.  Once we have established the causes, we begin the process of restoring your paintwork.  The first step in this process it usually involves the use of a clay bar as this removes contaminants that could get caught up in the pad of a polishing machine and cause more damage.

It also helps to create a smooth surface, allowing the polishing machine to move freely over the surface, reducing the possibility of hopping or sticking occurring. Lastly, because it’s done by hand, clay barring enables you to see the true condition of the surface as you are working.

The next stage is the polishing, which is carried out in stages.  A range of different grades of polish and polishing pads are used depending upon the degradation of the paintwork. The premise here is that you can always go harder, but you can’t go backwards.

Some scratches or imperfections may be too deep or severe to safely remove without risking removing too much surface paint or clear coat, and so are minimised and reduced through a combination of different products and machine and hand polishing.

Once complete, the vehicle is usually re-washed and a polish or Paint Protection product applied to bring out the colour and shine as can be seen from the image on this page.

Paint correction is a very labor intensive process and is usually the most time-consuming part of the car detailing process.  Your Car Care detailer has, in some cases, spent many years, perfecting their skills and as a company we ensure that we keep them up to date on the latest techniques and products.

About Car Care Australia

Car Care started in Perth in 1987 and has grown into Australia’s largest mobile car detailer. Even from those early days we set out to be different and were the first company to carry our own power and water so that we could work anywhere. In many ways our service hasn’t changed that much although the range of car care products we carry have grown significantly over time. Back in those early days there was no such thing as Paint Protection or Micro Fibre Cloths.

In 1990 we saw franchising as a way to expand our network that now covers every State and Territory in Australia as it not only created opportunities for over 300 men and women to run their own business it also ensured the level of service that we wanted to offer with customer focused detailers. We even expanded to New Zealand.

That attention to detail along with national coverage has enabled us to provide our car detailing services to most (if not all) of the major vehicle manufacturers over that time. It has also enabled us to work on some very different and challenging events. This included maintaining a fleet of Audi’s as they and the accompanying journalists travelled across the Nullabor. We have attended most sporting events from AFL to Cricket to the Australian Open, Formula 1 Grand Prix, etc. and more recently in 2019 looking after all the vehicles (including the Royal one) at the Invictus Games in Sydney.

The most significant changes we have seen have been in technology. When we started out there was no such thing as mobile phones so our detailers used a telephone box to call the office for their next job. Through a cloud based job allocation system developed by our parent company Mpower Franchising Pty Ltd our detailers can now access enquiries through an App on their phone enabling them to respond to a client promptly.

We will continue to innovate and expand our coverage and range of services in the car appearance market through delivering a mobile service in a client focused way whilst maintaining the opportunities for those wishing to run their own business.
