How are local detailers selected or vetted?

They are the owners of the business and as such are franchisees. Every franchisee is carefully interviewed, trained and monitored.

What training do detailers receive?

All detailers receive an initial 1 week block of mandatory training (this is to sort basics). Then ongoing training, this is often gauged based on each individuals requirements and previous experience.

What equipment do they bring on-site?

They bring everything that is required in order to deliver our suite of services

Do they require access to water or power?

They may occasionally require this.

How long does a typical booking take?

This depends on which service is booked our entry level detail in some cases may be as fast as 40 minutes. A full detail with paint correction and a ceramic coating can take all day.

What types of vehicles do they service?

Almost anything

Are there any vehicles they don’t service?

If it is safe and accessible then we will consider detailing almost anything

Custom Detail

What are the exact 61 steps included?

This is proprietary however it is an exact process taught to all incoming detailer to ensure nothing gets missed.

How long does this service take?

It depends on vehicle size and condition between 40 minutes to 80 minutes. If it requires more than this there is every chance a more comprehensive detail is required.

What interior cleaning is included?

In this service it is a good vacuum and wipe-over the inside of windows and door jams wiped over. Sometimes a little extra required around steering wheels shift changes etc if sunscreen and make-up or similar is present.

What exterior cleaning is included?

The wheels are cleaned, tyres glossed, paintwork pre-rinsed, paintwork washed, dried and windows cleaned

Is wax or protection included?

There is a wax component in the product we use to wash cars which will enhance paintwork however there is no lasting effect from this (1-2 weeks) and should not be considered protection.

What tools/products are used?

This can depend on vehicle condition which will determine what equipment and products are used. However as a minimum the tools required would be: pressure washer, vacuum cleaner, detailing microfibre towels, detailing brushes. The minimum products needed (of high standard): wash and wax, tyre shine, wheel cleaner, general purpose cleaner, window cleaner.

How does this compare to a standard car wash?

This service is our entry level standard detail. In our opinion this goes over and above what most people consider a standard car wash.

Is this suitable for heavily soiled cars?

You are better off selecting an appropriate service to meet your requirements. This can usually be sorted out by talking with your local detailer.

Can customers customise the 61 steps?

This is our basic detail so no we would not recommend that for this particular service.

What results should customers expect visually?

This depends on what sort of condition the car was in to start with. However in our experience the extra “details” that Car Care includes in the basic detail our customers are happy and the outcome is second to none

Custom Detail & Polish

What additional steps are included beyond the 61-step detail?

This is the external polishing (where required paint correction)

What type of polish is used?

We use quality polishes the client can stipulate if they want. There is a multitude of different products out there our detailers are expected to purchase all products from recommended reputable suppliers.

Does polishing remove scratches or just enhance shine?

It can remove scratches (it depends on how deep they are) it will also enhance shine and give water beading qualities

How long does the polish last?

This will depend on many factors, for example if you live somewhere close to the coast and the vehicle is often parked outside the polish might only last for 3 months. In these situations we recommend strongly considering ceramic paint protection. If a car is regularly garaged and not exposed to the elements too much once a year may be sufficient.

Is paint protection included or separate?

Paint protection is a separate consideration.

What condition must the paint be in before polishing?

Ideally the paint should be smooth and free from surface contamination.

Is machine polishing used?

It is where required but this may cost more and sometimes depending on client requirements and budget could be up to a 4 step process.

Can this damage older paint?

Generally not but it will depend on what has been done to the paintwork in the past. Your detailer will assess the paint prior to commencing any work.

How does this differ from paint correction?

Paint correction is a broad term and can be anything from removing surface contamination (industrial fall-out, over-spray, tree sap, bird excrement, bitumen, cement or anything else you might think of that can fall onto a cars) to scratches from scrub, carparks etc. polishing essentially is the final enhancement of the paintwork except with ceramic paint protection)

Is this recommended annually or more often?

Annually would in most cases be our recommended minimum.

Interior Detail

What surfaces are cleaned inside the car?

All surfaces that can be reasonably reached (even the vanes on your air conditioning vents)

Are seats shampooed or steam cleaned?

We shampoo seats.

Is leather treated differently from fabric?

Yes great care needs to be taken with leather. We only use recommended cleaning, conditioning and where the customer may want it protection or sealing products.

Are odours removed or just masked?

We do our absolute best to remove odours and this may also sometimes require using our ozone treatment process.

Are air vents and small crevices cleaned?

Yes

What products are used inside the cabin?

Specific products are used dependant on what they are used on. On upholstery a non- foaming producted is used in our extraction machines sometimes a general purpose cleaner is also used. On all hard plastics a general purpose cleaner and a plastic rejuvenation product is used. On the windows a window cleaner that is gentle on window tinting is used. On leather seats only recommended leather cleaners and conditioners are used.

Is mould removal included?

This can be done with specific mould removal products. This is usually an extra charge. Mould needs specific conditions to take hold usually it will mean moisture has ingressed into the vehicle.

How long does interior detailing take?

This will be dependant on condition but a standard type clean on a regular size car will take about 2 hours

Is drying time required after cleaning?

Yes this will dependant on the weather. Sometimes in winter it may take a couple of days. Summer can be dry even before the detailer leaves. Windows should at least be “cracked” in order for the moisture to evaporate.

Is this safe for sensitive materials?

Yes

Interior Detail & Wash

What does the exterior wash include?

The wheels are cleaned, tyres glossed, paintwork pre-rinsed, paintwork washed, dried and windows cleaned

Is it hand wash or machine-based?

Hand wash most detailers are now doing this with a foaming gun (sometimes called a foam cannon)

Are wheels and tyres cleaned?

Yes this is standard

Is drying included to prevent water spots?

Yes.

Does it include wax or sealant?

There is a wax component in the product we use to wash cars which will enhance paintwork however there is no lasting effect from this (1-2 weeks) and should not be considered protection

How does it differ from the Custom Detail?

It is all the extra cleaning on the interior; shampooing all seats, carpets, mats (leather seats are cleaned and conditioned by hand). All hard surfaces cleaned and protected.

Is it faster than a full detail?

Yes, because it doesn’t include a polish of the exterior

Is it suitable for regular maintenance?

Yes it is perfect for people who might give the interior a bit more of a hard time than the exterior. Think children, pets

Are eco-friendly products used?

Our products are friendly to the environment and are considered to be “quick break” by our suppliers meaning they degrade quickly once used.

Can this be bundled with other services?

At Car Care we are happy to tailor any service to your requirements

Full Detail (105-step process)

What are the additional steps beyond the 61-step detail?

With a full detail it is many steps but to summarise it is all of the extras in a full interior detail as well as all the extras included on a custom detail with exterior polish.

What makes this a “full” service?

It is presenting the vehicle back to the client in the best possible shape. The proviso here is that either the vehicle is in reasonable condition or where necessary the client has authorised Car Care to do any extra work (i.e. paint correction) to present the vehicle back to the client in the best possible fashion.

How long does the 105-step process take?

For vehicles in reasonable condition anywhere from 3 hours to 5 hours

Is engine bay cleaning included?

No, this is in a pre-sale detail, we don’t include it this as some people don’t like or require that.

Does it include polishing or correction?

It includes polishing and minor correction, we can of course do paint correction should the client want that.

What level of restoration can be expected?

It depends on where you start from as in how well loved (or not!) the vehicle is. It is unrealistic to expect a 20 year old car to look like it has just come off a show room floor 😊.

Is this suitable for neglected vehicles?

Yes it is, a discussion with your local detailer will help give you an understanding of what can be achieved. We have had clients who were selling their car after detailing and decided to keep it!

How often should customers get a full detail?

Full detail really only needs to be as a customer requires it for some it could be once or twice a year, some may never need it because they keep up with the maintenance.

Is it worth the price compared to smaller packages?

All of our packages are worth it. If a vehicle needs a full detail it is great value.

What’s the most time-consuming part of this service?

No one thing. It will depend on vehicle condition for example if the interior is heavily soiled the interior will take longer.

Pre-Sale Detail

What makes this ideal for selling a car?

It includes the engine bay and most car purchasers will want to lift the bonnet.

What is included in engine bay cleaning?

We take care to avoid the electrical components in the engine bay otherwise it is all included as well as the underside of the bonnet and around the edges of the engine bay.

Does it increase resale value significantly?

We have been told by customers it has lifted the resale significantly but also ensured a quick sale.

Are there before/after comparisons available?

How long before selling should this be done?

Almost as soon as you are ready, provided you aren’t going to be using it too much or taking it down some dusty roads a week to 10 days should be fine

Does it include paint correction?

If the client requests this no problem. As with most things this can be discussed before hand with the local detailer.

Are minor scratches removed?

Some minor scratches would be.

Is odour removal included?

The act of fully shampooing the interior will get rid of most poor odours if this is a problem you can add an ozone treatment, this can be discussed with your detailer.

Is this recommended for dealerships or private sellers?

To be honest most dealerships when taking back a vehicle will add a detailing component no matter how the vehicle looks when you give it to them. So for returning a vehicle to a dealership or fleet supplier it is probably better to do accustom detailer but check with them. Definitely recommended for private sellers.

What’s the ROI for customers using this service?

This might be anything from a couple of hundred ROI to into the thousands depending on the base condition of the vehicle.

Additional Services

What types of paint protection are offered (ceramic, nano, etc.)?

We aren’t locked into any one supplier. We will do any sort of paint protection the client might want but we use and recommend ceramic and specifically Graphene and Borophene from Samurai ceramics.

How long does each protection type last?

This is dependant on the conditions the vehicle is kept in but as a general guide ceramic as far as longevity will be anywhere up to 10 years most detailers agree that to keep it looking at its best a “top up”or maintenance coating should be done about once a year. PTFE is more like 2-3 years and would need redoing to keep it at it best.

What’s the difference between PTFE, ceramic, and nano coatings?

PFTE is an “older generation” product and is Teflon based. Whereas ceramic coatings are silcone dioxide based (Si02).

How is paint protection applied?

It is all about the preparation so the paint needs to be at it best as well as completely free of any contamination. It is then wiped on, it “flashes off” (essentially this is the solvents that help carry what stays on your paint evaporating). It is levelled and buffed.

Is paint correction required before protection?

Absolutely.

What does headlight restoration involve?

This is usually a 4 part process. The light is sanded, buffed, cleaned and then a coating applied.

How long do restored headlights stay clear?

In most cases about 3 years but it can be longer.

What causes headlight oxidation?

It is the elements but essentially the UV from the sun breaks down the polycarbonate.

How does ozone treatment remove odours?

It is a chemical process (oxidisation) whereby the ozone attaches itself to the odour causing particles breaking them down and neutralising them.

Is ozone treatment safe for humans and pets?

While the machine is in use it can be harmful to humans and pets. It does breakdown extremely quickly and is safe to enter the vehicle within 5 minutes of completion.

Technical & Product Questions

What brands of detailing products are used?

There are many brands. We use reputable industry standard from our approved suppliers

Are the products eco-friendly or biodegradable?

Our products are friendly to the environment and are considered to be “quick break” by our suppliers meaning they degrade quickly once used.

What is a pH-neutral shampoo and why is it important?

Being pH neutral means it is gentle to the surface being cleaned, leaving protective components on the surface intact.

Why use multiple microfibre cloths per car?

Different microfibres perform differently on different surfaces and do different jobs.

What tools are used for polishing and correction?

It depends on what type of correction is being done but the most common equipment used are clay bars, some chemical for removing surface contamination. The polishing machines we use are dual delete methods full stop. A range of polishes, polishing pads and many different types of microfibre cloths.

Are there different product tiers based on budget?

Yes there are but at Car Care we only use quality products.

How do they avoid scratching paint during cleaning?

Using the correct products and procedures.

What’s the difference between waxing and sealing?

Waxing is traditionally using canuba wax which enhances paintwork shine, this is combined with other products to assist it on actually getting it onto the paint and delivering some longevity (usually 1-6 months). Paint sealant comes in many forms and in general terms will last much longer than a wax product hard to give a time frame but when people talk about sealants they are usually talking about ceramic which should when applied correctly give you 5-10 years (with top ups)

Are ceramic coatings worth the cost?

It depends on how long you keep your car and how much you value the appearance. In Car Care’s opinion if you think you will keep it more than 3 years it represents good value.

How do they handle sensitive finishes (e.g., matte paint)?

Special products and methods are used.

Booking & Experience

How far in advance should customers book?

In order to secure a day and time that suits at least a week but if the job isn’t big we can sometimes do same day

Can bookings be made same-day?

Sometimes yes, we will always do our best to meet customers requests.

What is the cancellation policy?

No one likes a cancellation and giving as much notice as possible is always desirable. We don’t actually have a cancellation policy at this time.

Are fixed prices guaranteed?

No it is always subject to inspection but we will firm the cost prior to commencing in most cases. Sometimes something can’t be seen initially (i.e. surface contamination that isn’t apparent until the car is washed) and in these cases we will always discuss with the client.

Is there a call-out fee?

No call out.

How long is a typical appointment window?

The appointment window is based on the level of service and what information has been given to the detailer.

Do customers need to be present during service?

No but it is desirable at the start (but not necessary). However being contactable is important.

What happens in bad weather?

If we can’t complete a detail we will communicate with the client and arrange for completion at the earliest possible time.

Are there maintenance plans or repeat services?

Yes, and we recommend this in order to keep your vehicle in tip top shape. This can be arranged with your local detailer.

What differentiates this service from competitors?

We pride ourselves in going above and beyond, and in almost all cases the detailer coming to do the work is the owner of that business. The detailers are equipped to work in most situations (keeping safety in mind) with the equipment that we carry. We come to you with everything a fixed site has to offer.
